Why did you choose College Prep? I chose College Prep because of the learning environment. I knew I wanted a school where people truly want to learn, and one visit to CPS showed me that this was the school for me. It was clear that not only were the students excited to learn, but the teachers were excited to teach. Our teachers are so enthusiastic and passionate about what they teach, and that is so unique to CPS.
What is the biggest difference between middle school and high school? The biggest difference is the freedom we have in high school. At my middle school, we weren’t really able to try new things or pursue new hobbies. At CPS, the teachers, staff, and overall community are supportive and trusting, allowing us the freedom to pursue our passions as well as encouraging us to try new things. No matter what you love, you know you always have the freedom to keep doing it!
What advice would you give to eighth graders applying to high school? One piece of advice that I would give to eighth graders applying to high school is don't be afraid to express your interests. Once they start high school, many people feel like they need to fit in, and they often suppress interests that they think aren't cool. However, all that leads to is feeling badly about what you love. Never be afraid to be who you are and do what you love, especially in high school.
What is your favorite place on campus (and why)? My favorite place on campus is the music room. I am deeply passionate about music and whenever I need to practice violin for a concert or want to noodle around on the drum set, I know that the music room is always open.
Campus Involvement: I play on the varsity basketball and baseball teams, I was a class representative on the student council, and I do public forum debate. As for involvement in the school's artistic programs, I am a member of the first violins in the school orchestra, play in the school's chamber music concerts, play in the spring musical's pit orchestra, and acted in this year's fall production of "Our Town." I am also an editor for the school newspaper, the Radar, and a graphic designer for the sports media team, Radar Sports.
What has been your favorite class so far (and why)? My favorite class so far has been physics. Science was never really my area of expertise, so I didn’t really enjoy science classes in middle school. However, physics completely changed my perspective by helping me see a fun side of science. Before high school, science had been a boring mixture of memorizing facts and formulas, but all the hands-on activities and experiments in physics led me to see a new side of science. Even though class was really fun, I was still able to learn a lot and deeply understand the concepts we were learning.
What is your favorite thing about College Prep? My favorite thing about College Prep is the campus. Not only is the campus beautiful but it creates an amazing atmosphere for learning and having fun. Whether you want to study by yourself in the sun, hang out with friends while playing basketball, or lie down under a tree, there is a spot for you on campus.
What is your favorite character from a movie/book/television series? My favorite character is Michael Scott from “The Office."
Three unusual things about me:
1. I've broken my left wrist twice in the same spot.
2. I am a big sports stats and news nerd.
3. I performed in the SF Opera.
